Regarding Lebanon that is located in the Middle east, it follows the Eastern philosophy in its educational institutions and schools. The education in Lebanon favors stability and is very far away from change because teachers in Lebanon are seen as “knowledge supplier” and students act as “knowledge receiver”, instead of involving students basically in the learning process, which is very wrong. As a result, students depend on teachers, become less energetic, and find difficulties in thinking and getting out with new ideas.Nevertheless, the teachers are more liable, as they make sure their students are well-equipped with adequate understandings and skills to make them ready for the future. Besides, the Lebanese education is known with its standard syllabus and timetable, as it focuses on memorizing (rote learning). Hence, students may learn bunch of knowledge, but have no idea of their learning aim. Since their learning process involves pure memorizing, there is no creation of any connection between their previous knowledge with the new one. As a result, the knowledge they obtain usually will not stay in their minds for long time. To add more, it will be extremely hard and imprudent for teachers to reason everything to the students, because it may be above their levels of understanding. For example, a physics or mathematics formula may need certain knowledge and background information in order to understand how it is derived. To avoid students from being more confused, most of the teachers in Lebanese schools, ask students to memorize the rule and teach them how to apply it in solving a problem. As for Eastern, the culture stresses on accordance, which inhibits creative thinking. Education philosophy must help support and appreciate genius thinking, which is the foundation of the ability for making new discoveries and new creations. By sticking to originality as what is happening in Lebanon, it’s hard to produce students who are genius, and must add that the absence of these intelligent students will reverts society in Lebanon to empty repetition. However, Lebanese students are more disciplined and have high morality, as they often obey to rules and religious teachings. Thus, conformity is good for morality, but bad for development of intellectual.
In conclusion, the educational sector in Lebanon faces high weaknesses and lack of evolution. It must start changing its bases from the roots for better performance in all domains and they must lean towards good conflicts and follow up with the western philosophies.
